About me
I spent about $40 of my own money to buy this domain, and I put together the content -- for which I was paid zero dollars and zero cents -- in one evening. I did it because this topic comes up a lot in my professional practice and in my teaching and I wanted people to have a reference for sound, non-sponsored information to help them make better decisions about their buildings.
I also just got really annoyed at people who ought to know better using bad building science to malign some products and elevate others. The most egregious example of this is the "water column" test performed on overdriven fasteners on a sample water control membrane in a horizontal (!!!!!) orientation. (They even use red dye to make it look like the "failed" walls are actually bleeding!) Anyway, the test is supposed to show the superior water hold-out capacity of a particular mechanically attached membrane, but it's obviously not at all representative of how walls work in service. There are plenty of excellent reasons to prefer one type of water control membrane over another! But design decisions like this are hard enough without introducing misinformation that has the appearance of technical accuracy into the mix.
